I am the Coordinator for Vaccines, Immunotherapeutics, and Diagnostics Policy at BIO. Prior to joining the Health Policy team at BIO, I worked in BIO’s Alliance Development department serving patient advocacy groups and other third party stakeholders. I am devoted to the advancement of our industry because biotechnology can uniquely provide life changing (and saving) solutions across some of the most diverse global challenges. In my free time I am an avid sports fan and active member of the Purdue University DC Alumni club – playing on the basketball and soccer club teams. I recently started scuba diving and look forward to getting more experience before the end of the summer. In the winter months I am happiest on a mountain snowboarding with friends and family.

CDC Hosts Briefing on Adolescent Vaccination Coverage
On August 25th the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) hosted a briefing on adolescent vaccination coverage. The briefing featured comments by Dr. Melinda Wharton, Deputy Director at the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) at the CDC. While immunization rates for tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine and meningococcal vaccine saw double digit increases, Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates increased just slightly. Institute of Medicine Releases Report on Adverse Effects of Vaccines: Evidence and Causality
On August 25th the Institute of Medicine (IOM) released a consensus report titled “Adverse Effects of Vaccines: Evidence and Causality”. The independent panel researched adverse effects associated with eight common childhood vaccines. The panel found there are no links between vaccines and autism or Type 1 diabetes and rarely connections to other adverse events.
