I am excited to announce that BIO will co-host a new conference event, BIO Latin America, taking place September 9-11, 2014, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We recently entered into an agreement with Biominas Brasil, a not-for- profit institution dedicated to life sciences in the region, to build on the successful BioPartnering Latin America event held by Biominas the past four years. This new international conference for BIO will complement our global portfolio of industry events.
The decision to add to our portfolio is based on feedback from our members looking to do business in emerging markets, as well as the positive response we have received from the Brazilian government, industry, universities and our local partners, Biominas chief among them. There is tremendous potential for a robust and innovative biotech industry in Brazil, given its strong scientific base, leading position in agribusiness and biofuel production, abundant natural resources, growing population and increasing demand for and access to health care services.
With an estimated attendance of 400, BIO Latin America will bring together executives, researchers, investors and government officials from Latin America and globally to discuss trends and learn about investment opportunities within this important market.
The conference will feature partnering meetings (powered by BIO’s One-on-One Partnering™ System), company presentations and panel discussions on topics including the policy environment, funding opportunities and challenges and opportunities for doing business in the region.
