J. Craig Venter to deliver keynote: “Life at the Speed of Light”
Biotechnology innovations and commercialization of renewable chemicals will be featured topics of plenary sessions at the 2013 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy. In a recent press release, the Biotechnology Industry Organization highlighted panelists and speakers presenting at this year’s plenary sessions, including its keynote speaker, J. Craig Venter, Founder, Chairman, and CEO, J.Craig Venter Institute; Founder and CEO to Synthetic Genomics, Inc.
“Craig Venter has been a leading pioneer in not only the human genome but also in industrial biotechnology,” said Brent Erickson, executive vice president, Industrial and Environmental, at BIO. “At this year’s BIO Pacific Rim Summit, he will deliver an inspirational keynote address entitled ‘Life at the Speed of Light,’ which will address new discoveries at the intersection of synthetic biology, computational science, and industrial biotechnology.”
The Pacific Rim Summit is the original conference dedicated to partnering and growth of the industrial biotechnology and bioenergy sectors in North America and the Asia-Pacific region. The first plenary session of the summit will focus on just that point, granting attendees a firsthand look into these ever evolving sectors. The Pacific Rim Summit annually draws delegates from The United States, Canada, Malaysia, China, Thailand and many others. Last year’s conference had over 385 attendees representing all segments of the industrial biotechnology industry.
Additional plenary sessions will cover such issue areas as the utilization of non-biomass feedstocks for biofuels as well as how to adapt to a continually developing marketplace. Sessions will be paneled by a robust representation of industry and trade executives including Genomatica, Heliae, ARPA-E, Amyris, LanzaTech, Calysta and Newlight Technologies.
The Summit this year will be held in San Diego, California from December 8 -11, 2013 at the Westin Gaslamp Quarter. BIOCOM is the co-organizer to this year’s event. Visit our website at www.bio.org/pacrim to find out more on the 2013 Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy.
