Advanced Biofuels Companies Showcase Progress
Wednesday at the National Press Club, several advanced biofuels companies joined BIO to showcase the progress the industry has made in recent years. U.S. companies have worked to rapidly scale up advanced biofuel technology – through pilot and demonstration projects – and a number are now constructing and commissioning commercial-scale biorefineries. The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) has been the industry’s bedrock policy behind this innovation. It provides the fundamental foundation driving private investment in America’s Read More >
Biofuels Producers ask President Obama to Stay the Course on the RFS
Earlier this month eight biofuel industry organizations formed the Biofuels Producers Coordinating Council to advocate for national policy advancing biofuel technology. Brent Erickson, executive vice president of BIO’s Industrial and Environmental Section is a member along with Michael McAdams, Advanced Biofuels Association; Brooke Coleman, Advanced Ethanol Council; Mary Rosenthal, Algal Biomass Organization; Brian Jennings, American Coalition for Ethanol; Tom Buis, Growth Energy; Anne Steckel, National Biodiesel Board; and Bob Dinneen, Renewable Fuels Association. The Great Green Fleet
Last week the U.S. Navy took part in the 22-nation Pacific Rim training exercises off the coast of Hawaii. Different for the U.S. Navy in this year’s exercise was the fact that its warships and fighter jets were powered by a 50-50 blend of biofuel and petroleum-based fuels. It was the operational debut of drop-in advanced biofuels in the Navy ships and aircrafts and the demonstration proved the green-fuels blend to be safe and effective. Read More >
See for Yourself: New BIO Book Showcases Visible Progress in Industrial Biotech
BIO recently introduced a picture book of biorefineries across the United States, “Visible Progress in Commercialization of Advanced Biofuels, Biobased Products and Renewable Chemicals”, which showcases commercial, demonstration and even new pilot facilities. Some of these facilities have been in operation for as long as a decade while others are new plants under construction. They include the first commercial-scale cellulosic biofuel production biorefineries and facilities for ongoing research and development of industrial biotech products. Biorefineries Read More >
Business Confidence with the RFS Under Attack
This week, Biofuels Digest and BIO launched the quarterly Bioenergy Business Outlook Survey. Results from the first quarter of 2012 showed that industry optimism remained high earlier in the year, even though companies still reported difficulty in raising the capital needed for ongoing research and development and construction of demonstration and commercial biorefineries. Now that the petroleum refiners have launched a multi-million dollar pr campaign against the biofuel industry, it will be interesting to take Read More >
