It’s no secret that Texas’ economy is booming and has been for some time. An important part of that growth has come from knowledge sectors, such as biotechnology.
The biotech industry in Texas has expanded by about 20% through the last decade. This type of growth doesn’t just happen on its own. It requires careful planning and coordination between academia, industry and willing investors. There is one further element, whose importance cannot be understated. Responsible leadership from elected officials who understand government’s role in encouraging industry growth is particularly essential to the unique needs of biotech companies.
Texas House of Representatives Speaker Joe Straus is a San Antonio native and has been critical to the success of the biotechnology and life science industries in Texas. The Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Institute will soon formally recognize his impact on this industry and leadership in the House of Representatives to support legislation that fosters medical advancements through research, development and innovation.
Speaker Joe Straus will be honored at the Annual THBI Luminary Dinner. The 2014 Luminary Dinner will be held the evening of June 4 in conjunction with the Texas Healthcare and Bioscience Summit taking place in Austin, Texas.
