We are excited that you are joining us for the 2014 BIO International Convention. As you have seen, we are doing things a little differently this year. We have revamped and improved the Convention to make it more engaging, more informative and more productive.
We listened to your feedback and have added new educational Specialty Forums. Our Forums will offer cohesive programming in which participation in all sessions is recommended, allowing for a deeper dive into the topics. This year, many Forums will conclude with dedicated networking time allowing you to meet others with similar interests. Of particular interest is our partnership with the Wireless Life-Science Alliance on the Digital Health Forum and Zone. The Forum will explore the intersection of digital health, biotech and pharma, while the Zone will feature an “app” bar where presenters can showcase their technology and participate in partnering within their booths.
Another exciting addition to BIO 2014 is the new Innovation Zone. BIO has partnered with the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation to feature Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) funded biotech companies. The majority of participating companies in the Innovation Zone have received SBIR Phase II grants, which provide up to $1 million dollars in funding to engage in R&D that has the potential for commercialization.
In addition to revamping our programming, we have also worked to develop new social media tools and apps to ensure that you can effectively and efficiently manage your time and make the best connections while you are here.
Our One-on-One Partnering™ system remains the best in business. According to the 2013 Campbell Alliance’s Deal Makers’ Intentions report, partnering events such as BIO 2014 drive the majority of successful deals in the biopharma industry. More than 5,000 companies will participate in over 28,000 One-on-One Partnering meetings. It inspires me to think of the great ideas, new partnerships and new products that will be developed as a result of these conversations.
Thank you for helping to make the BIO International Convention the must attend event of the year. And enjoy your time in San Diego. We look forward to seeing you in Philadelphia in 2015.
