The 2014 Summit will be held September 16-18, 2014, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

Delivering your information about science discoveries to the public is as important as the discoveries themselves, so attendees will get the opportunity to hone their communications techniques during specially produced programming at this year’s Livestock Biotech Summit.

“Attendees will hear directly from experts the strategies of how to effectively communicate around animal biotechnology,” said David Edwards, director of Animal Biotechnology at BIO. “The fact is, consumer confidence and education about this technology is an essential part of product success in the market.”

On Tuesday, September 16th, the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science will present the sessionDistilling your Message on Animal Biotechnology.” Attendees will learn key tools to help them fine tune their ability to convey messaging around a complicated technology to listeners at various levels of understanding through this interactive plenary session.

Also on the schedule for September 16th, Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam, the 2014 Borlaug CAST Communication Award winner and Cooperative Extension Specialist in Animal Genomics and Biotechnology at the University of California at Davis along with Charlie Arnot, CEO, Center for Food Integrity will present a session titled “Messaging about Animal Protein.” Here, attendees will have the opportunity to learn from experts how to best communicate about the use of technology in producing animal protein for a rapidly growing population.

Additional programming during the three-day Summit will include discussions on research and development in animal biotechnology, the regulatory system, research funding and care of animals used in research and production settings. Programming and other Summit information can be found at www.bio.org/livestockbiotechsummit.

Registration for this year’s Livestock Biotech Summit is officially open to attendees and credentialed media.
