On Sunday, January 17, 2016, CBS’s Barry Peterson reports on the ongoing food labeling debate around genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The segment addresses whether or not GMOs are really unsafe for consumers or are certain groups neglecting and ignoring the scientific basis around genetically modified crops. In the video, CBS reports that such prestigious scientific organizations as the American Medical Association, the World Health Organization, and the National Academy of Sciences all say hundreds of peer-reviewed studies confirm GMOs pose no danger to health.
The segment opens with “by some estimates, 80 percent of all processed foods – cereals, baby formula, canned soups and more – contain at least one genetically-modified organism. But whether GMOs are safe and whether they should be listed on the label has led to a very big food fight.”
