Today’s IPO from Complete Genomics (GNOM) brings the US biotech IPO list to 17 since the latest window opened up back in August 2009. IPO update: 28 IPOs, 24 on Deck
The number of IPOs slowed during the summer, but the queue has been filling nicely. Fifteen more biotechs have filed to go public in the last month and a half, bringing the total to 24 globally. 1Q Cash Spending – Small Biotechs Still Spending Less
A comparison of cash spent on operations in the 1st quarter of 2010 vs the 1st quarters of 2009 and 2008 for small public biotechs shows a slowing in the precipitous drop seen over the last 2 years. However, the average small biotech is still spending less cash vs. 2008. When compared to 1Q08, the median cash flow from operations (CFO) in 1Q10 is down -40%. From 1Q09, median CFO is down -15%. 1Q 2010 – All Time High for the BTK
The first quarter of 2010 saw the Amex Biotech Index (BTK) hit another all time high, thanks largely to Intermune’s (ITMN) jump of 240% and OSI’s (OSIP) gain of 92%.
